Passion and Skill

“Without passion, all the skill in the world won’t lift you above craft.  Without skill, all the passion in the world will leave you eager but floundering. Combining the two is the essence of the creative life.” Twyla Tharp

I’ve been thinking about the word “passion” a little more than usual lately since I became familiar with #besomebody. here in Austin Texas. This is their mantra:

You can say that it is a word that is overuse, but mostly it is a verb that is underused. What does it take to really feel so passionate about something? I believe that passion, much like love, is not easy to define or describe but I do believe that improving your skills gives you the ability to execute your ideas and the more skill you have, the more sophisticated your ideas can be. If you are passionate about something, you can’t help but to want more….learn more…and give more.

Analyze your skill set; make a list of your skills, see where you are strong and where you need improvement and then go out and use your skills with passion. Until next time, “Be Inspired to Create!” #bi2c ~Maria

“Without passion, there is no art. The artist to a greater or lesser degree dominates himself, but it is passion which motivates his work.” Henri Matisse
