I’ve been thinking about how right brain, creativity, gratitude and happiness all fit and work together. In Dan Pink’s book “A Whole New Mind” he covers six specific high concept and high touch aptitudes that have become essential in this new era, the conceptual age. These “six senses” are Design. Story. Symphony. Empathy. Play. Meaning. Gratitude is listed under meaning. “Gratitude is a key component of personal happiness. People who are grateful about specific things in their past, who dwell on the sweet triumphs instead of the bitter disappointments, tend to be more satisfied about the present.” “One reason to give the gratitude visit a try is that it can generate a momentum of its own.”
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy
I was also looking through the December issue of Woman’s Day magazine in which an article on Creativity was on the same page with a column on The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. In this happiness column, the woman wrote in to share her ways of sparking her creativity: Reading, Daydreaming, Playing, Doodling. Check out the web site: http://www.happiness-project.com/
“There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy.” Robert Louis Stevenson
So tell me, are you happy and grateful because you are creative or are you creative because you are grateful and happy?
